Step 1: Gather supplies
Certain tools will be needed for dock repair. These tools include:

Step 2: Inspect the dock
First things first, an inspection of the dock will take place. The dock posts will be inspected underwater to look for issues in their structure or for any nails that are loose. This is usually done by a professional who uses scuba or snorkel gear so they can inspect the posts all the way down to the bottom. They’ll also look at the wood planks and railings that make up the dock itself. Any sign of damage will be noted for repairs.
Step 3: Waterproof replacement materials
Once the professionals know what all needs to be repaired or replaced, they’ll spend time waterproofing the replacement planks and posts. This is done with a sealant that protects the wood from rot and damage.
Step 4: Conduct repairs
When the replacement wood is ready, the professionals will then use a water pump to remove water and sand from the area surrounding the old posts. This helps them place the new posts at least 4 feet into the water floor. Afterwards, the planks and railings above water are also replaced.
Lastly, all other aesthetic repairs will take place. Any loose nails will be replaced with new ones. Additionally, any wood boards that were not replaced with be recovered with a sealant to ensure they last for years to come. They will also be stained if needed.
